CBD for skin diseases and as an anti-ageing ingredient
The endocannabinoid system takes on various regulatory tasks in skin metabolism. It influences the growth, differentiation and cell death (apoptosis) of skin cells and the production of sebum, hormones and regulatory proteins (cytokines).
The functions of the endocannabinoid system on the skin are to regulate the endocannabinoids anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) at the receptors CB1 and CB2. The two endocannabinoids are produced by the cells of the epidermis, the hair follicles and the sebaceous glands.
In these diseases, CBD oil can be helpful by soothing the itching sensation, inhibiting inflammatory processes and regulating the formation of skin fats. Appropriate CBD-containing care products are being used more and more by patients.
CBD oil can have a decisive influence on the ageing process of the skin. Initial results are promising, and research is now underway on how to optimize the absorption of CBD by the skin.
Clinical trials with CBD oil and cannabidiol
A lot of knowledge about the effects of cannabidiol came initially from animal research or studies on isolated cell samples.
Results from these studies are instructive. However, they have only limited information about the possible benefits of CBD oil in humans.
It is, therefore, worth taking a look at the so-called clinical studies. In clinical trials, a specific drug is tested on sick or healthy people.
Based on the clinical studies known to date, the following statements can be made about the effects of CBD oil:

- – CBD can help with anxiety.
- – CBD can help alleviate THC-induced psychosis.
- – CBD oil can inhibit excessive appetite.
- – CBD can be beneficial for sleep disorders.
- – CBD can relieve pain after kidney transplantation.
The effects of taking CBD and THC together were also examined in individual clinical studies. Among other things in Crohn’s disease, in nerve pain, in cramps in general and in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), in tumour pain, fibromyalgia, cannabis addiction and sleep disorders.
The regulatory properties of CBD on the immune system could also be helpful in several other autoimmune diseases, such as Hashimoto ‘s disease.
Due to its effect of the body’s endocannabinoid anandamide on the metabolism, CBD oil could also be helpful in the treatment of the so-called clinical endocannabinoid deficiency.
Studies show the diverse uses of CBD oil
In spring 2020, a research shows that CBD oil therapy can be divided into four groups:
- – pain,
- – psychological problems,
- – neurological diseases.
The first group included patients with rheumatic diseases, fibromyalgia, migraines and inflammatory bowel diseases.
The cancer-related complaints included nausea, pain and stress, the psychological problems anxiety and depression. Multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, neuropathies and Parkinson’s disease were found in the neurological disorders.
Of the 4500 patients, 300 were very satisfied with the CBD oil therapy. Significant improvements were shown, among other things, with various types of pain, anxiety, sleep disorders and depression.
According to the studies, the different doses could have been a reason why CBD therapy did not work for some.
